Canvas
Canvas is Feldar’s visual planning board for characters, locations, story elements, and plot notes. Canvas is available in a desktop browser and the macOS app; it is not currently available in mobile web or the native iOS open beta.
Why use Canvas
Section titled “Why use Canvas”Saved Canvas cards can be used as project context during generation and while working with Chat. Keep the cards focused on details that should influence the writing.
Card types
Section titled “Card types”Canvas supports six card types:
- Character for people in the story
- Location for places and settings
- Note for history, rules, cultures, and other background
- Plot for events, turns, and story beats
- Item for important objects
- Faction for groups and organizations
The illustrated card tray provides all six actions. Hover an action to see its label. You can also right-click an empty area of Canvas to create a card.
Create and edit cards
Section titled “Create and edit cards”- Open Canvas from your project.
- Add a card from the illustrated tray, or right-click an empty area and choose a card type.
- Enter a title and notes on the card.
- Select the card and open the Inspector to edit the title or body in a larger panel.
The Inspector also lets you move to the previous or next card and delete the selected card.
Select and arrange cards
Section titled “Select and arrange cards”- Click a card to select it.
- Drag an empty area to draw a selection box.
- Hold
Shiftwhile clicking or dragging to select multiple cards. - Drag a card or a multi-card selection to reposition it.
- With multiple cards selected, choose Row, Column, or Grid to arrange them.
- Toggle Snap to align moved cards to the Canvas grid.
- Right-click a selection to copy, paste, duplicate, arrange, or delete it.
Canvas supports undo and redo for supported board actions.
Navigate the board
Section titled “Navigate the board”- Hold
Spaceand drag, or use the middle mouse button, to pan. - Use the zoom controls, or hold
Cmdon macOS /Ctrlon Windows while scrolling or pinching, to zoom. - Select Reset view to return to the default view.
Relationships
Section titled “Relationships”Canvas does not currently support relationship lines, edges, or a relationship inspector. Place related cards near each other or arrange them into rows, columns, or grids instead.
Use Canvas with Chat
Section titled “Use Canvas with Chat”Chat can use Canvas cards as context and may propose creating or updating a card. Review a proposed change before accepting it; Chat does not change the board silently.
