Caret Assist

Caret Assist is Feldar’s context-aware drafting tool. It offers actions at the cursor based on whether you are in a sentence, between sentences, at a paragraph boundary, or inside dialogue.

How to use it

1. Place the cursor where you want Feldar to write.
2. Select the enhanced caret beside the cursor.
3. Choose one of the actions Feldar offers for that position.
4. Review the generated text in the editor.
5. Press Tab to accept the completed preview or Escape to dismiss it.

Caret Assist does not replace your text immediately. You decide whether the preview belongs in the page.

Actions you may see

The menu changes with the cursor context. Available actions include:

• Finish sentence
• Continue from here
• Extend paragraph or Add transition
• Add scene detail, Add reaction, or Expand beat
• Start dialogue, Add subtext, or Add action beat
• Continue scene
• Revise sentence, Tighten clause, Split sentence, or Add interruption

You will not see every action at every cursor position. For example, Finish sentence is used mid-sentence, while dialogue-specific actions appear around dialogue.

Expand or transform a beat

To add detail at a point in the draft, place the cursor at the relevant seam and choose Expand beat or Add scene detail when offered.

To transform existing text rather than insert at the cursor, select the passage and use Rewrite. Dramatize, Deepen Description, and Add Interiority are useful when a compressed passage needs more room.

Voice and length

Choose Settings at the bottom of the Caret Assist menu, or open Settings → Voice & Style. The Caret Assist card lets you choose its model, base style, default insertion length, and custom instructions.
