Rewrite
Rewrite generates alternatives for selected text. Pick a passage, choose a direction, and compare the results without replacing your prose first.
The workflow is available in the desktop editor and the native iOS app, but the controls adapt to the screen. The instructions below use the desktop layout; see Chat and Rewrite in the mobile app for the native iPhone flow.
When to use it
Section titled “When to use it”- A passage feels flat, rushed, or generic
- Dialogue sounds stiff
- You want to tighten or reshape prose
- A moment needs more emotional weight
How it works
Section titled “How it works”- Select text in the editor
- Choose Instruct, Polish, Deepen, or Enhance from the selection menu
- Choose an operation, or enter your own instruction
- Review the inline alternatives
- Accept the version you want, or regenerate the active candidate
Instruct
Section titled “Instruct”Use Instruct when a preset does not describe the change you want. Give Feldar a direct instruction such as “Make the exchange more guarded” or “Keep the meaning but remove the sarcasm.” The instruction applies to the text you selected.
Rewrite groups
Section titled “Rewrite groups”The available operations adapt to the selected passage, so Feldar may emphasize the most relevant choices.
Polish
Section titled “Polish”- Sharpen Prose — add power and precision
- Smooth Flow — improve rhythm and readability
- Tighten — remove unnecessary words
- Clarify — make the meaning clearer
Deepen
Section titled “Deepen”- Deepen Description — add depth and sensory detail
- Cut Exposition — reduce summary and backstory load
- Dramatize — turn summary into action and scene beats
- Add Interiority — deepen character thoughts and feelings
- Strengthen Voice — reinforce narrative style and diction
Enhance
Section titled “Enhance”- Raise Tension — increase urgency and emotional pressure
- Add Foreshadowing — plant subtle hints
- Improve Dialogue — refine voice, rhythm, and exchange
- Change POV — switch between first person and third-person limited
- Change Tense — switch between past and present tense
Compare inline alternatives
Section titled “Compare inline alternatives”After generating, the inline alternatives card keeps the original passage and candidate versions together:
- Move through the available candidates.
- Compare each candidate with the original text.
- Choose Accept to insert the active candidate.
- Choose Regenerate to replace the active candidate with a fresh result.
If you close the card, press Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + V to reopen it while those alternatives remain available in the current editor session.
Alternatives and edit history
Section titled “Alternatives and edit history”Inline alternatives are not a historical Version History. Feldar does not currently provide a header menu for browsing dated snapshots or restoring an earlier page state, and autosave does not create a user-visible version archive.
Use alternatives to choose among the results of the current generation. For ordinary manual changes, use the editor’s undo action while that edit history is still available.
- Use the smallest selection that still contains enough context for the change
- Start with Polish for a light pass, then use Deepen or Enhance where the scene needs more work
- Use Instruct for tone or intent changes that do not fit a preset
- Run Checks after rewriting to catch anything new
