Editor
The editor is where you draft and revise a page. It keeps the writing surface central while planning, review, and assistant tools stay close at hand.
The controls below describe desktop web and the macOS app. The native iOS editor supports page management, rich-text formatting, autosave, Rewrite, Chat, and voice dictation through an adaptive phone or tablet layout. See Pages and writing on mobile and Dictation. Mobile web uses a more limited focused editor.
Editor layout
Section titled “Editor layout”On desktop:
- Project navigation for moving between pages and renaming the current page
- Canvas, Outline, and Chat controls in the header
- An Options menu for sharing, appearance, Minimal Mode, word count, and last-edited information
- A Checks control beside the writing surface
Select text to open formatting and Rewrite actions. Place the cursor without selecting text to use Caret Assist. Lens feedback now runs inside Chat, rather than from a separate editor toolbar.
Writing and formatting
Section titled “Writing and formatting”The editor supports headings, bold, italics, underline, links, and familiar text-editing shortcuts. Selecting text opens the formatting menu and the following rewrite groups:
- Instruct for a custom change
- Polish for clarity, flow, and tighter prose
- Deepen for description, interiority, and voice
- Enhance for tension, dialogue, point of view, and tense
Use Options → Appearance for page-level display controls. Broader typography and workspace preferences are available in Settings → Preferences.
Write with Markdown patterns
Section titled “Write with Markdown patterns”On desktop web and macOS, common Markdown patterns turn into rich-text
formatting as you type. For example, wrap text in **bold**, *italics*,
~~strikethrough~~, or ==highlight==. Start a line with # for a heading,
- for a bulleted list, or > for a block quote.
Plain-text pastes that contain block Markdown, such as headings or lists, are converted to editor formatting. Rich HTML paste keeps its normal behavior. Check the formatting after pasting; this is an editing convenience, not a promise to preserve every Markdown construct.
See Markdown patterns for the supported typed patterns. Native iOS uses its own formatting controls; these desktop patterns do not describe its editor.
Autosave
Section titled “Autosave”Feldar saves changes automatically. The header shows when a save is in progress and when the page is saved.
If your connection drops, wait until the app reconnects and the header reports that the page is saved before closing it. Autosave is not a substitute for historical version snapshots.
Generated text and alternatives
Section titled “Generated text and alternatives”Caret Assist and instructional edits can show generated text as an in-editor preview. Press Tab to accept a completed preview or Escape to dismiss it.
Rewrite results appear as inline alternatives. Compare the candidates, accept one, or regenerate the active candidate. Inline alternatives are tied to the current generation; they are not a permanent version history.
Settings for generated prose
Section titled “Settings for generated prose”The former editor-header Write Settings panel has moved to Settings → Voice & Style. There you can configure Caret Assist and Page Draft separately, including model, base style, and feature-specific controls. See Voice & Style.
Use Voice conditioning there to save a sample of your own writing for a specific project.
Review your writing activity
Section titled “Review your writing activity”Open Options → Writing record to review recorded typed, pasted, and AI-assisted writing activity. The Writing record explains its counts, model breakdown, receipts, and limits. It is separate from both credit usage and historical draft recovery.
